Amphora
Description of Object:
A South Spanish olive-oil container or amphora
Discussion:
Found at Middlewich, it has graffito marked on the side ‘AMVRCA’ which means ‘for collecting waste from brine’. This means the container was re-used in the salt works.
Bottom-right is a fragment of another amphora which shows the potters finger marks as he makes the pot using the ‘coiling’ method.
