Medieval Coin

Description of Object:

Four-pence or Groat, (Sterling silver content). In great condition; you can make out the name of Edward III (1327-1377).

Discussion:

The Groat came into use under Edward I (around 1279) and the design changed very little in 150 years. This coin was issued between 1351 – 1361 by Edward III with a reduced weight compared to the original coin of 72 grains of silver.
